Tomorrow I leave for Sweden. You can wish me luck, but I may not need it. It is going to be a magnificent trip, filled with new sights and sounds... maybe some magic.
In other news, I found my electric toothbrush yesterday - needless to say I was pleased. It's cleaning power is far superior to your standard everyday brush, and although this isn't the biggest news to hit this blog, some good has come form this move.
However, shortly after I found the brush I realized that we no longer have hot water in my apartment... so I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.
My friend Mike and I spoke at length today about his obsession with the Bruce Springsteen song "The Rising" - Mike can go on for hours about how he cried his eyes out the first time he heard the song one lonely night driving to Zanesville Ohio to visit his family.
He vividly described the moment for me, and I was compelled to keep listening... from the moment the tune kicked in and his eyes filled with tears, to when he pulled his Oldsmobile into the parking lot of Adernettos, the local pizza joint famous for quality and authentic pizza at affordable prices, I was in awe.
With tears falling from his eyes, under the soft neon glow of the Adernettos sign, Mike slowly enjoyed some roadside pizza slices and found solace in the boss's words;
"Come on up for the rising
Come on up, lay your hands in mine
Come on up for the rising
Come on up for the rising tonight"
I think we can all learn something from Mike and his story - he found something that night along interstate 70, something I like to call peace of mind. So Come on up for the rising Mike, Come on up for the rising... tonight.
